This has not been a great week, and it’s all my fault. I know how to manage my stress levels and what I need to do to help maintain that optimistic outlook of mine, and I’ve been letting things slip. It happens to everyone, I guess. But I’m determined to get back to the positive mindset I had at the beginning of the week, and it starts with being grateful that today is Friday (instead of wishing today was Saturday). And I have some great, happy links to share, so that helps, too.
I’m not sure how it’s taken me so long to discover this video, created by The Story of Stuff Project in partnership with the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics last year, but it’s really great. It explains in a clear way why it’s so important to read the ingredients labels on your beauty products (and to know which chemicals are best avoided).
If you have friends or family like mine who are skeptical of natural beauty products—whether it’s because they worry that natural products won’t be as effective (Natural Beauty Myth #2) or because they assume the products they’re already using are safe—this video would be a great way to explain your point of view.
Honestly, I’m curious—do you have friends and family who think using natural or organic products is ridiculous? I know I’ve created a few converts over the past few years, but plenty of my friends and family have been immune to my soapbox chatter thus far…please tell me I’m not the only one! —Aleigh
This video generated a lot of conversation when it first came out in June, but I thought it was worth sharing here. In it, Dutch artists Lernert and Sander apply a year’s worth of makeup in one sitting to Belgian model Hannelore Knuts. (Find out more about the video and how it was made.)
When you consider that most of what you put on your skin is absorbed into your body, and then look at how much stuff you can put on just your face over the course of a year…does watching this make you re-think what you put on your body every day?
