Link Love: Daylight Savings

I have no love for Daylight Savings Time—it always feels as though it takes weeks for my body to get adjusted to even just that one pesky hour of difference. (Today is no exception.)

But I have a happy announcement to make this morning! Thanks once again to everyone who filled out the first ever Indigo+Canary Reader Survey. It is now closed and ready for me to spend some quality time mulling over all of your excellent comments and suggestions. I used to select a winner for the $25 Spirit Beauty Lounge gift certificate, and the winner is respondent #9, Anne Burnham! (Anne, look for an email from me to confirm receipt of your gift certificate.)

And here are some link love goodies for you:

Link Love: Winter

I’m long overdue for a Link Love post—especially since I’ve been hoarding so many great links to share! Here’s what I’ve been reading + enjoying lately:

According to this story in the New York Times, when you feel lonely, your skin is literally colder. Which explains why a warm cup of tea or coffee is so comforting.

This has been making the rounds, but if you haven’t seen it yet, a recent study links drinking soda with a higher risk of depression.

A bummer: Fig+Sage has ended their lovely natural beauty blog. I hope they keep the archives up for a while, because they’re a great resource. (And I wish them the best!)

I’ve been following along (although haven’t yet attempted) Bon Appetit’s 2013 Food Lover’s Cleanse, but it looks delicious. And I think I may try it. Pomegranate walnut oatmeal for breakfast? Sign me up.

Love this, from MindBodyGreen: 10 Easy Ways to Slow the Aging Process. Good advice here!

More great advice, this time from No More Dirty Looks: 4 Ways To Care For Your Hands (And Why You Should Want To). Brilliant and important.

Link Love Friday

Tomorrow is December, and I can hardly believe it. I’m terribly behind in my gift shopping this year, possibly because I’ve been working so hard on our 2012 Holiday Gift Guide. I’m planning to make up for lost time this weekend, and I hope our gift guide helps you do the same! Here’s what I’ve been reading+enjoying this week:

  • I really needed to read this great message in my friend Rosie Molinary’s newsletter yesterday: You have to teach people how to treat you.
  • Well+Good NYC has a great post about workday stress relief, and it’s perfect for this time of year: 8 Deskside Remedies for Freak-Outs at Work.
  • This post on No More Dirty Looks about the “holy grail of skincare” cracked me up! One hilarious nugget: “…let’s face it, that woman clearly has a direct line on some magical unicorn hair…”

Do you have any fun links to share? —Aleigh

Link Love: Gift Guide Coming!

Things have been a little quiet over here at Indigo+Canary lately—one big reason is that I’ve been working on our second annual Holiday Gift Guide. It’s coming (and soon!), but in the meantime, here are a few great links for you to explore.

  • From Organic Authority: low exposure to this chemical fungicide has been linked to obesity.
  • My friend Rosie wrote this beautiful post about fear and how it can hold us back.
  • Starre Vartan’s post about these Tatcha Polishing Powders has me intrigued. Have you tried any of them?
  • This post from Siobhan at No More Dirty Looks makes me think I ought to try aromatherapy. Do you incorporate aromatherapy into your daily life?
Happy Monday, everyone! Here’s to a fantastic week. —Aleigh

Link Love (and our Osmia Organics winner!)

Ahhh. I can't wait to get to the mountains this weekend!

Today’s Link Love is kind of all over the place—similar to the way I’m feeling this week! I’m heading to the mountains tomorrow for some fun and a much-needed change of scenery. But before I go, here are the things I’ve read this week that I wanted to share with you (and an announcement about the winner of our Osmia Organics giveaway!).

  • Crunchy Betty has introduced me to the maca root. It sounds a little too good to be true, but CB does link to a few cautionary tales, so be sure to check those out if you’re considering giving it a try. (And if you do, I want to hear all about it!)
  • I love this tip about taking good care of your hands over at the Clean Beauty Blog. The backs of your hands are one of the first places to show signs of aging (really!), but they’re often neglected. It’s a good reminder to give them some love.
  • I’m adding ginger to my diet after reading this post on No More Dirty Looks. Do you eat or drink ginger regularly? How do you incorporate it into your diet?
  • This post from Organic Authority just reinforces my avoidance of pthalates. The prevalence of parabens and pthalates—my top two avoided cosmetics ingredients—is what solidified my natural beauty obsession in the first place. Those are two substances I just don’t want floating around in my body if I can help it.

And…drumroll please…the winner of our Osmia Organics giveaway is: Manda! Look for an email from me so that Sarah and I can make sure you get the Aspen Walnut Micro Scrub you had your eye on. And be sure to let me know what you think! —Aleigh
