Natural Beauty Review: Kosas Cosmetics

Kosas Cosmetics review Indigo and Canary

I’ve written about lipstick on Indigo + Canary many times, but here’s a quick recap: It’s a tough product for me. I have super full lips and often feel like wearing lipstick makes me look clownish. But as I’ve gotten older (and, perhaps, my lips have gotten a little thinner?), I have started to feel like lipstick is the thing that makes me look — and feel! — pulled together. When I’m wearing lipstick, I’m doing the #adulting thing. I feel like a grownup. However, this whole uncertainty about lipstick has a side effect: It also makes me extremely picky. If a lipstick is too drying, it gets tossed. If it doesn’t have the staying power to last through a morning meeting, out it goes. (Side note: As the mother of a toddler, purging things from my home has become a big part of my self-care. Getting rid of stuff feels so good.)

Well, guess what, friends?! I had the chance to take four shades* from Koras Cosmetics out for a test drive, and I’m kind of in love. Read on for the full review!

Product Review: 1000 Roses Color + Correct from Andalou Naturals

Andalou Naturals 1000 Roses Color + Correct Indigo and CanaryIf there’s one Korean beauty product I love most, it’s got to be CC cream. This beautiful little number does everything a BB cream or beauty balm does, but adds complexion-enhancing color correction. It’s essentially a foundation plus moisturizer in one. So if, like me, your skin isn’t quite ready to face the world with just a bit of moisturizer, and you need a little help to get your skin tone balanced and even (and maybe even cover a few blemishes), then a CC cream is your new best friend.

That’s why I could barely contain myself when I spotted Andalou Naturals 1000 Roses Color + Correct on the shelf at Earth Fare, one of my favorite health food stores.

Beauty Obsession: MarieNatie Lip Gloss

I’m sure this will shock absolutely no one, but I’m kind of a lip gloss junkie. I carry around about eight different glosses with me every day (no wonder my purse is always so heavy!), and I like them all for different reasons. One is my typical every day gloss. One is so saturated with color that it requires a mirror for application (unless I want to scare people with the results). One is the perfect shade of pink…you get the idea.

I usually prefer gloss over lipstick because I have very full lips, and lipstick tends to make me look clownish instead of sultry. (There are exceptions, of course.) But one thing I absolutely cannot stand is a sticky gloss—the kind that makes you feel like your lips have suddenly become lint rollers (anything and everything sticks to them). Which is why I was glad to discover* the new lip gloss from MarieNatie!

What I tried: MarieNatie lip gloss, $18. It’s the newest item in the MarieNatie product line, and was just released last month.

First impressions: The ingredients list makes me happy. Check it out:

Jojoba oil, jojoba gel, pomegranate oil, sunflower seed oil, grapefruit seed oil, candelilla wax, carnauba wax, vitamin e, vitamin e acetate, mica and essential oil.

What caught me by surprise: The gloss has a rather strong smell, which Marie tells me comes from the gloss’s rose essential oil. However, once I put on the gloss, I couldn’t smell it at all—and I was completely won over by the texture. It goes on smooth, feels super soft on your lips, and has solid staying power, which makes it a rare find, in my experience. Most glosses are either super moisturizing but lacking staying power, or sticky (blech) and hard to remove. Even after the gloss had worn off, my lips felt soft and moisturized. Win!

Bonus: It comes in 12 shades! I tried American Beauty, which is a lovely shade of bright pink.

Do you have a favorite lip gloss? Do tell! —Aleigh

*Disclosure: This sample was sent to me for review, but I only write about the products that I think are truly worthy of being shared with you. View my full disclosure here.
