Beauty Obsession: Alima Pure Holiday Collections

I make no secret of my love for Alima Pure. Their products are as beautifully packaged as they are thoughtfully created. (Proof: How many makeup lines do you know that offer eight shades of concealer?) So when I found a package in my mailbox* from Terresa, Alima Pure’s creative director, I knew I was in for a treat.

What I tried: Inside my little package I found samples of Alima Pure’s new Limited Edition Holiday Collections ($35 each). First up, Cold Outside, a collection of cool, wintery eyeshadows and a flushed-cheeks blush (left), and then Warm Inside, featuring warm, bronze-y eyeshadows and highlighters (right).

First Impressions: I have a cool complexion, so I went straight for Cold Outside…and I’ve been rocking this collection for the past week. Terresa included instructions to complete a look that includes the entire collection (below), using Snowdrift (the off-white shimmery shade) as a highlighter, and blending the blue Snow Angel across the lid into the purple Jack Frost shade, then lining the upper lashes with Jack Frost and the lower lashes with Snow Angel (using a dampened brush). Finally, add a sweep of the Rosy Cheeks blush, a few swipes of mascara, and voila! Lovely.

I’ve also been testing out these eyeshadows on their own, and I have to say–all three shades are equally flattering. My favorite is the silvery-shimmery Snowdrift with a generous black liner on the lid and several coats of mascara. Easy everyday glam.

What caught me by surprise: The Warm Inside collection was equally flattering. I used a lighter hand when I tested it out, because yellow-ish shades tend to…enhance…the dark undereye circles I inherited from my grandfather. Which is not usually the look I’m going for unless it’s Halloween and I want to look sickly. I really love Candlelight (the pale gold shimmer), which I think is universally flattering, and Hot Toddy (the bronze shade) makes a great liner when you use it with a dampened brush. (You do this, right? Dampen your brush, mix up a little bit of your chosen eyeshadow on the lid of the jar…instant liner!) Plus, depending on your skin tone, any of these shades could work as a highlighter or bronzer–and I think they’d work really well on my skin in the summertime, when I have a (slight) tan. If you have a warm complexion…these colors were made for you.

Bonus: I’m always impressed with the generosity of Alima Pure’s samples, and right now, this week only, they’re including seven (7!) samples with every order of $35 or more. (Hint: Those little samples make for great stocking stuffers…)
