I tried it: DIY cheek stain

DIY cheek stain
A while ago, I discovered this recipe for a DIY cheek stain from ReadyMade, and I thought, “I should make that!” Then I read the ingredient list. You guys, I hate beets. I really, really hate them. I hate them so much that the thought of purchasing a beet, then having to peel it and chop it and smell it…grossed me out.

However, I also happen to be a former Benefit junkie. I have very fond memories of their famous Benetint, and that little beet-y cheek stain looked a lot like it. (Oh the shopping spree I’d go on if Benefit made natural or organic versions of their products…)

Finally, I could no longer stand the thought of being reunited with a natural version of Benetint, so I went to Healthy Home Market, bought two (!) beets and some vegetable glycerine–and wow, do I love this stuff.

Read on for the recipe and more photos!

Beauty Obsession: Revolution Organics

I mentioned my growing obsession with Revolution Organics Lip Gloss in August, when they held a place of honor in the sidebar, but I wanted to share a little bit more about exactly why I love this stuff (and Revolution Organics in general). One look at their products and you’ll never be able to think of organic makeup as ho-hum. From the chic, sleek packaging to the rich, bright colors, this isn’t your grandmother’s makeup—but I’m pretty sure she’ll love it as much as you will.

What I tried: Revolution Organics Beauty Balm (in blushed and bronzed), Revolution Organics All-Over Skin CrèmeRevolution Organics Lip Gloss.

Natural Beauty Faves: August 2011

You may have noticed the “Favorites” in the sidebar to the right (or maybe you’ve missed them completely), but I wanted to point them out today because they’ll be changing on a monthly basis, and you might want to check them out before September rolls around.

Basically, they’re the top four products I’m using and loving right this very minute.

Here’s why I love them:

  • Vapour Organic Beauty Atmosphere Luminous Foundation: I don’t use foundation every day, but I love the way this little tube evens out my complexion (a little bit goes a long way). Plus, it’s easy to take with me for midday touch-ups.
  • Alima Pure Satin Matte Blush: I’m a big fan of Alima Pure products; everything I’ve tried has been a success! Their blush is no exception. I have the Apple Blossom shade.
  • Revolution Organics Freedom Lip Gloss: I am obsessed with this lip gloss. I’m nearing the end of my tube, so I’ve been rationing the remaining gloss for special occasions only. I have Freedom, the bright red shade, and it’s the perfect bit of redness–subtle but flattering, and can be made deeper if you add layers. Definitely purchasing a replacement when my current tube finally bites the dust.
  • Pangea Organics Egyptian Geranium with Adzuki Bean and Cranberry. First of all, Pangea’s packaging is amazing — it’s seeded, and if you plant it, you can grow a little herb garden. Genius! And then there’s the product itself. I love this little face scrub. It’s a gentle exfoliator that’s good for every day use, and it leaves my skin fresh without feeling tight. Love!
