Natural Beauty Q&A: Makeup Artist Sally Biondo

I’m so inspired by eco makeup artist and organic beauty expert Sally Biondo. The New York-based makeup pro is a leader in the natural beauty movement (just look at her gorgeous work!) and is committed to empowering others with honest information about the products they use. She’s enhanced the natural beauty of stars including Jessica Simpson, Hilary Duff, Naomi Judd, and Lindsay Lohan.

Read on for Sally’s beauty philosophy, her must-have products, and the one bad beauty habit she encourages everyone to break!

When did you start using natural cosmetics, and what drew you to them? I’ve always had a passion to live a healthy, organic lifestyle. My interest in natural cosmetics started around 2005, when I realized that many of the products I used contained harmful ingredients. This changed my whole outlook about the way I trusted companies. I started researching more about these hazardous chemicals and how they pose a danger to the general public. That’s when I began my quest towards using truly natural products.

In 2007 I was able to completely switch over to using only natural cosmetics in my professional kit. I now dedicate myself to have all my clientele use only organic and natural products.

Your beauty philosophy: I believe we should strive to live a healthy lifestyle and educate ourselves about the dangers of unnatural products.

What product(s) can you not live without? I always carry RMS Beauty “Un” Cover Up and Pin Up Cosmetics Lip Balm in Sweetheart for a glossy lip without the sticky feel. Alima Pure makes a wonderful Satin Finishing Powder and 100% Pure mascara in blackberry is a staple of mine.

If you could go back in time and give yourself advice on trying makeup for the first time, what would you say? Less is more. No need to camouflage your natural beauty and who you truly are! Makeup should be an extension of your natural self.

What one bad beauty habit do you encourage women to break? Not washing your face before bed. It’s so important to wash off makeup, dirt and oil that can lead to clogged pores and a dull complexion. If you feel like you never have time to wash your face before bed, try leaving natural facial cleansing towelettes on your night stand. Burt’s Bees makes a great pre-moistened towelette.
