Chanee is a (lovely!) friend of mine who is also a talented blogger and designer–and passionate about sustainability. Her design blog, Melongings, is one of my favorites, and I covet her new line of handprinted, eco-friendly textiles. Then I discovered she also uses natural and organic products, and now I officially want to be Chanee when I grow up.
Read on to take a look at her approach to natural beauty.
When did you start using natural and organic beauty products? Early 2000.
(Side note: When Chanee was in the fifth grade, she put together a plan to create and market a bar of pure and natural soap for a school project. That’s what I would call “foreshadowing.”)
What draws you to a new product? Products made in small batches and recycled/recyclable packaging.
“I feel guilty if I can’t recycle something,” she says.
Favorite products? John Masters shampoo and body lotion, Mychelle cleanser, Hemp Organics lipstick in cayenne (a lovely deep red), Dr. Hauschka eyeshadow palette in brown, Burt’s Bees tinted lip balm, Sunshine Spa lavender salt scrub, Aveda lipstick in rayflower.
Synthetic products you haven’t been able to give up just yet? Estee Lauder concealer, Smashbox bronzer, Laura Mercier mascara.*
What can’t you live without? Concealer and mascara.
Your beauty philosophy? No fuss. I want efficiency.
Advice she would give to her younger self, when she was trying makeup for the first time? Stick to fruit-based products and ditch the heavy, perfumed shampoos.
“I should’ve worn more sunscreen…”
Gwyneth Paltrow, Emma Watson, Malin Ackerman…which natural beauty inspires you?
